Tomorrow, Jan. 24, is Yoga Day USA. On this day, people of all ages and fitness levels join together to get to know the body, mind, and soul through the practice of Yoga.

Most classes and workshops that participate in Yoga Day are free. This is to fulfill their Karma Yoga or selfless service. Yoga Day USA came from the Yoga Alliance, which registers Yoga Teachers (among other things).

It just so happens that I will be doing Yoga tomorrow. It is for a workshop and I paid for it but that doesn’t matter. I would be more than happy to pay for this class, especially since I’m so excited about it (it’s about work and astrology).

More more information on Yoga Day USA, click here.

Just remember that Yoga is more than Hatha Yoga (posture). There is Karma Yoga (selfless service), Bhakti Yoga (devotion and worship), Jnana Yoga (self-inquiry), Japa Yoga (using mantra/mala), and Raja Yoga (Yoga of the mind).

So if you volunteer, go to church, ask yourself who you truly are, use mantra in meditation or follow one of the 8 Limbs of Yoga, you are still doing your yogic duty. ;)

Remember to also keep an open mind…especially if this is your first time! :>

Until next time, stay strong, stay healthy, and fight dis-ease!

Yoga is a way of life, a conscious act, not a set or series of learning principles. The dexterity, grace, and poise you cultivate, as a matter of course, is the natural outcome of regular practice. You require no major effort. In fact trying hard will turn your practices into a humdrum, painful, even injurious routine and will eventually slow down your progress. Subsequently, and interestingly, the therapeutic effect of Yoga is the direct result of involving the mind totally in inspiring (breathing) the body to awaken. Yoga is probably the only form of physical activity that massages each and every one of the body’s glands and organs. This includes the prostate, a gland that seldom, if ever, gets externally stimulated in one’s whole life.

Thank you for your comment. I will leave it up because the content of the comment sounds good (although I will point out that the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali can be considered a “series of learning principles” because it systematizes Yoga in a way for a person to comprehend…especially since the mind functions on systems, sets and series). However, I will advise people who read this to not click on the link. Even though it says “Mediation Techniques Yoga” it leads to a Data Entry site.

Namaste.
